After not getting a thank you, much less a financial token of my service to him especially after him looking inside his wallet and seeing all the money was present, I did wonder why I ever bothered, especially when I desperately needed the money being broke and almost penniless. Others told me they would have kept the money and just returned the wallet. However, after grappling with my uneasy feelings from this man's lack of gratitude, and the thoughts that perhaps I should have kept the money to help my life and family, eventually I was grateful that I did the right thing returning property back to its rightful owner. Plus, I am grateful for this lesson as it taught me once again, that no matter how strong temptation is, one must always resist it and uphold the code of honesty and dignity, no matter how painful.
